A puppy needed rescuing after a 15-foot fall into an Atlanta-area storm drain, Georgia firefighters said.

Fire rescue crews were called Thursday, May 18, after the dog, Michie, plunged into the drain and became trapped while walking with his owner in Vinings, according to Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services.

Multiple squads responded to help get the pup out. Photos posted online showed firefighters huddled near the drain’s opening.

After checking the air down below, crews hoisted Michie to safety and reunited him with his owner, according to a news release. Authorities did not say how long the dog was trapped but said it wasn’t hurt.

The rescue was cheered by residents, who commended the firefighters online.

“Great job guys, keep up the excellent work,” one person wrote on the department’s Facebook post.

Fantastic!!! Cannot praise you all enough,” someone else said.

Crews aided in a similar rescue in April after a group of teachers alerted them to another dog that was stuck in a storm drain, McClatchy News reported. Firefighters worked to free the “scared little guy” from the tight space and he was placed for adoption.

Vinings is about 10 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta.
