A dad went to a gas station in California for coffee and returned home with a winning lottery ticket to show his children.

Nabi Hasani got a $10 The Perfect Gift! Scratchers ticket on a whim at an ampm convenience store in Chula Vista, the California Lottery said in a Wednesday, May 24, news release.

When he scratched the ticket, Hasani “couldn’t believe his eyes” — he had won a $1 million prize.

“It was just a random pick. I asked the cashier if it was true that I won,” Hasani told lottery officials.

Then he surprised his children with his win and asked them to confirm it.

Players have 20 “chances to win” on The Perfect Gift! game. The top prize is $1 million.

Chula Vista is about 10 miles south of San Diego.
