It’s championship season in South Mississippi.

The George County Lady Rebels represented the Coast by sweeping the 5A Mississippi softball state championship last week.

On the baseball diamond, St. Stanislaus and Resurrection have punched their tickets to the state title series beginning at the end of the month.

East Central and Gulfport need game three wins in South State to follow the Rock-a-Chaws and Eagles north to the final series of spring.

  • Seth Farni, St. Stanislaus baseball: Farni had two hits, a home run, two RBIs and five strikeouts from the mound in the Rock-a-Chaws South State-clinching win over Clarkdale.
  • Peyton Collins, George County softball: Collins earned championship series MVP in the Lady Rebels’ title sweep of Saltillo. Collins pitched a complete game in the first contest with seven strikeouts before recording the save in the second game.
  • TJ Dunsford, East Central baseball: Dunsford tossed six innings of shutout ball with 11 strikeouts in the Hornets’ game one win over West Jones in South State. Dunsford also collected a hit and an RBI.
  • Dawson Hall, Gulfport baseball: Hall drove in the winning run in extra innings to take game one of South State against Northwest Rankin.
  • Carter McCammon, Resurrection baseball: McCammon collected four hits and four RBIs in the Eagles’ series win over Ethel.
